Right to work checks
A check before they start, and a record of every one.
Who checks, which route you use and how long you keep what you saw, written down once. Each check then has a form to complete before the person starts.
No card to start · £39 a month to export · England, Scotland and Wales
What the law asks
Check the right to work of everyone you employ before they start, by one of the three prescribed routes, and keep a dated record for the employment and two years after. Since 1 October 2026 this also reaches people engaged on a worker's contract, individual sub-contractors and online matching services.
